When we moved into our current home three years ago, we swore one of the first things we would do would be to revamp our living room. The room was in desperate need of a new coat of paint, our couch needed to be replaced and we needed a new rug. During that three years, we worked on other rooms, but kept putting off the living room. The main reason? While we knew we needed upgrades, we were also afraid to do so with two small kids. Why ruin a new couch with spilled milk when we can continue to ruin the old one? Finally we made the leap. We painted the room and bought a couch, but we continued to delay on the rug.
Our living room is the central room both in our house and in our family. We needed something pretty yet functional. That could withstand tickle sessions, game nights, sandy feet, cuddles with the dog and more. Finally we found a rug that could tackle all of that. A washable rug.
Yes. You heard that right. All of the rugs by Lorena Canals can be washed at home in a conventional washing machine. Established in 1990, when the founder, Lorena, questioned why kids’ rugs couldn’t be washed at home, she set out to design and produce rugs and accessories that are both stylish and practical. Each rug is made by hand in India with 100% natural cotton and non toxic, non polluting dyes which means they are safe for even the smallest family members.
For the living room, we decided to go with the Large Air Natural from the Early Hours Collection. Measuring at 5'7" x 8" it’s the perfect size for the room and the neutral color works well with the rest of the room, making it easy to match with any accessory. I love the mixture of sewing techniques that gives it several different textures and thicknesses.
Lorena Canals also makes other home decor items, including blankets, wall hangings, washable cushions and more. They even have an outlet where you can score some beautiful pieces at a fraction of the original price.
