In many ways it feels like summer has just begun but we are already thinking about Back to School and all that entails. New back packs, new lunch boxes, new clothes, new shoes. I'm always on the hunt for the perfect kids shoe (I'm pretty sure we've tried them all) especially for my daughter who would prefer ballet slippers to sneakers but still wants to be as active as her older brother. With The Humble Soles I just might have found the perfect mix of style and durability.
The Humble Soles specializes in a host of ethically crafted goods (baby swings, sun hats, apparel and, of course, shoes) made by artisans in Nicaragua. While traveling for work the owners, Gabriel and Ashlyn, fell in love with the country and its people and made it their mission to do what they could to help the children that lived there. Not only do they provide employment to Nicaraguan artisans, but for every shoe purchased 10% is donated and you, as the buyer, get to decide where you want that money to go. You could feed a child, fund a child's education, or fix a child's home. How cool is that?? Regardless of which you choose, you know that your 10% is, at least in small way, going to make a child's life just a little bit better.
I've always loved shopping for a cause but what's even better is shopping for a cause and receiving an awesome product! The Natalia Leather Sandal is handcrafted so the detail and quality is evident in every stitch. It is cute but durable, and sturdy while still being comfortable. My 3 and a half year old daughter can expertly put them on and take them off on her own (although shoes sometimes still manage to end up on the wrong feet) and she wants to wear them all the time. Plus they are super easy to clean. Just a rag, a little water and a bit of coconut oil and, VOILA, back to perfect!
Given that The Humble Soles has so many cute products and they are using their profits to give back to the country that inspired them, there's no doubt that this will become one of our favorite shops. Hopefully it will become one of yours as well.
