At 3 years old, I assume my daughter Hadley is like most small children, always following me around and wanting to do the same things Mommy does. It's true for for things like cleaning the house and it is certainly true for make-up and nail polish. For quiet a while now she has been requesting that her nails be painted. She sees the different colors I wear and notices every time they change. Despite doing a bit of research, I had not found polish I was comfortable putting on her. That was until Prim & Pure (c/o) sent me their products.
Prim & Pure was started by a mother who had the same concerns I did. In an effort to reduce the exposure to harmful chemicals for her own children while still providing them with colorful and fun products, she struck out to produce a truly kid-friendly bath and beauty line and there is no doubt that she has successfully done just that.
While Prim & Pure makes a variety of products including lip balm, make-up, body scrubs and more, the product we were asked to review was their nail polish box set. So what makes these polishes so special? Well, aside from the super bright (and adorable) colors, Prim & Pure's polishes are odorless and free of all the nasty chemicals. To be exact, that means no Toluene, Dibutyl Phthalate (DBP), Formaldehyde, Formaldehyde Resin, Camphor, Nitrocellulose Plasticizers, Glycol Ethers, Biphenyl A, Acetates, Acetone, Alcohol, or Synthetic FD&C Dyes. Whoa! That's quite a list.
The polish also doesn't require chemicals to remove (because that would be a bit of a contradiction, right?). Instead, just soak the nails in warm water for a couple of minutes and the polish peels off like a sticker. That means you don't have to worry about the polish coming off during hand washing, but be careful if your little one likes long baths. Either way the polish is easy to apply and only takes a couple of minutes to dry so reapplication is easy and, in all honesty, I think that's the part my daughter likes the most anyway.
As far as the colors, we were able to try their 3 newest colors: Mango Tango (Orange), Avoca-Toe (Green) and Pineapple Princess (Yellow) and loved them all. I love that they are bright and perfect for Spring while still being soft and innocent enough for a 3 year old.
As for any kids' product the real test is the kid's opinion. I may love a product and stand by the ingredients, but if she doesn't love it, she's not going to use it. Almost a week after our first application, she is still requesting it and that's endorsement enough for me.
